Albert Strange on Yacht Design, Construction, and Cruising published by The Albert Strange Association, 1999.
I put this book together with Mark Miller. It is largely made up of Strange’s own writings, with some commentary of ours here and there, and histories of the boats featured. Mark also provided a very interesting bibliography.
It is still available via the website of the Association: www.AlbertStrange.org
- if you are quick! But the companion volume, John Leather’s Albert Strange - Yacht Designer and Artist, is no longer in print. However, there are plans afoot to rectify this situation. Watch this space, or keep an eye on:
“The eagerly-awaited companion to John Leather’s biography of the great Victorian designer presents a rich selection of the man’s work and reprints some of his most influential articles on both design and cruising.
This is a treasure trove for Strange people. Particularly fascinating is the analysis of the yawl rig included in the introduction to this highly detailed book...
Fascinating too are Strange’s essays on design...It is as complete a record of how a yacht was conceived in the ‘great’ era of yacht design as you could wish for, and very lucid....
Would that all yacht designers had biographers like Leather, Clay and Miller.”

ARTICLES
I haven’t had much luck gathering up the bits and pieces I have written over the years, but this is where they may appear as and when I do.
In the meantime, one which is very relevant at the moment is the one on Venture, written for Classic Boat - No. 237, March 2008. “VENTURE’S LUCK” which relates the story of her restoration. I will make this available as a pdf file soon.
